what will move through the country weatherwise. there is a storm developing. if you're in san francisco, it has been a deluge of rain. as we toward tomorrow, watch san francisco once again get hit with rain. you can see that move through. it does move out by monday. monday, the west coast is dry. here's what we're really watching. this will be our christmas week storm more or less. area of low pressure will develop here in the gulf of mexico. we'll bring in moisture from the gulf. there develops that low. this is christmas. it may not be white, but it will be wet. perhaps in little rock and new orleans and birmingham and atlanta, down here into the deep south. if we can get enough cold air down here, we may mix in a few snow flurries. we're keeping an eye on how deep that cold air gets. it looks like that low will develop. and across the country here into the midatlantic and bring some snowwednesday, thursday timeframe into the northeast again. we'll have to keep an eye on that. the focus for today, the northeast, of course, some snow showers even around new york city perhaps today. but

to work. just watching an interesting computer model. it's been a deluge, awful travel in san francisco the last couple of days. for tomorrow, watch california, here comes a next system. so another day in san francisco and seattle with rain. by monday, the west coast clears out. but here's the little interesting nugget that could happen. on monday, watch what happens here in the gulf. moisture comes up from the gulf, an area of low pressure develops. this is the deep south. birmingham to new orleans to atlanta, could be a wet christmas. rain, not a white one. then we could see this area of low pressure develop, and it's from tuesday to thursday in the mid-atlantic and northeast, we could be looking at another storm. we'll have to keep our eyes on that model. forecast, though, for today, pretty blustery. watching us from the northeast, new york city could see a few snow showers coming down. but the winds are pretty strong. so it's pretty chilly. so some snow in western great lakes. of course, we're seeing that, the lake-effect snow guns firing off. another wet day on the west coast, rand

to hit the northwest. right now flights at the san francisco airport are delayed about an hour and a half. the heavy rains are causing a dramatic spike in car crashes. drivers say the slick streets cause them to suddenly lose control. >> i hydroplaned and i hit the curb. >> i was really lucky. i was driving really slow, too. couldn't stop. i turned that corner and fishtailing everywhere. it was way scary. >> nbc meteorologist dylan is here. it's only going to get worse. >> tomorrow morning is when we'll see the worst conditions with heavier rain and strong wind gusts. we've got this setup here where a huge upper-level low is sitting just to the west of washington state. and all these storms are streaming in right into northern california. and we are looking at moderate rain at this time across northern california into southwestern oregon and also up in the seattle and the coast of washington state. now tomorrow we are actually going to see even heavier rain start to move in. we have already had reports of about 8 to 10 inches of rainfall already from the past few storms we've already seen

family was touched by the brutal mass shooting at a law office in san francisco in 1993 where crazed gunman with an assault weapon killed eight people and wounded another six. one of those people was a brave young lawyer who threw his body over his wife's, sacrificing his own life to save hers. that young man was one of my son's best friends. so i can tell you without a shadow of a doubt how these horrific and senseless tragedies live on with the survivors forever. the parents, the spouses, the children, the families, and the friends. it changes their lives forever and it pierces their psyche forever. since 1999 which was the year of the massacre at columbine high school and we'll have a chart to talk about this, 258 students, teachers, and others have been killed in school shootings. another 212 have been wounded due to gun violence at our schools. i will break down just some of those crimes. a 2005 shooting at red lake senior high school in minnesota. >> we're going to go away from this for a bit. when she gets into the meat of the speech we'll fill you in and go back to senator ba
